PORTALES, NM, June 23, 2021 – On Tuesday, July 13, Roosevelt General Hospital (RGH) celebrates the ribbon cutting and anticipated grand opening of RGH Emergency Department.  The celebration begins at noon with the ceremonial ribbon cutting, facility tours and refreshments.  The new emergency department is located in the same area of the hospital as the previous one—south side of hospital. The easiest route to the emergency room parking lot and entrance is from 18th Street and Schlenker Road; but patrons may enter through the main hospital parking lot and make an immediate right.  This road wraps around the hospital which gets you to the new Emergency Room while other construction projects are being finalized.

“We are thrilled to have this day finally arrive and to be able to provide Eastern New Mexico residents with quality, comprehensive emergency care close to home,” says RGH Chief Executive Officer Kaye Green.

The ribbon cutting is in anticipation of an August 2021 grand opening.  Patients may begin using the newly designed emergency department early August.  The emergency care facility will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering immediate care for illness and some major injuries, such as high fever, broken bones, sprains, heart attacks and strokes.  The highly skilled physicians and nurses staffing the facility can treat most emergencies on site, however, transport of critical patients by air is possible via CareFlight helicopter which is located on the hospital campus.

The near 7,000-square-foot emergency services center features a large comfortable waiting area, ten private exam rooms, including: a bariatric examination room; an area for trauma patients; a behavioral health safe room, and an isolation room for patients with a potentially infectious disease.

Additional rooms include two private triage rooms for initial evaluations, a centrally located nurses’ station, a physicians’ lounge, and an employee breakroom.  The emergency department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
