Eastern New Mexico Softball prepares for its last home doubleheader of the 2022 season, as West Texas A&M will battle in Portales in the regular season finale. Game one is set for 1 p.m. and game two will follow soon after. Eastern will honor its two seniors prior to first pitch of the first game.

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds split its last weekend of LSC play, taking two games from Western New Mexico and falling in both games to UTPB. The Hounds powered to a 9-2 win over the Mustangs with homeruns from Kianna Galindo and Jokaira Paredes. In game two, Eastern scored three runs in the final inning to complete a 7-6 comeback win. Sierra Wooley delivered a two-out 2 RBI double in the seventh to take the lead.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

Eastern come into the final weekend of regular season play at 17-29, and 8-20 in LSC play. Currently, the Hounds sit in 13th place in the conference standings with the top-10 teams making the conference tournament. Eastern would need a sweep of the Lady Buffs this weekend and need other results to fall in their favor to advance to the postseason tournament.

As a team, the Greyhounds hold a .240 average at the plate and reach base at a .328 rate. The offense has totaled 173 runs on 264 hits, with 153 RBIs. Defensively, Eastern have a .951 fielding percentage and have an ERA of 5.67. The pitching staff has totaled 249 strikeouts and given up 265 runs.

Azalea Martinez leads the team in batting average with a .319 clip. Lisette Urquidez leads the team in hits (39), RBIs (37), and runs scored (22). Just behind in batting average and RBIs, Sierra Wooley holds a .292 batting average and 21 RBIs. In the circle, Brook Leger leads the program with a 3.23 ERA, a 10-14 record, and 162 strikeouts. Leger leads the conference in K’s at 162, and is third in strikeouts per seven innings at 8.6.

SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS

The Lady Buffs enter the weekend at 27-14 on the campaign and 16-12 in conference action. WT has already secured a place in the conference tournament, currently sitting in eighth place. The offense has a .340 batting average, scoring 276 runs, posting 387 hits, and bringing in 252 RBIs. The Lady Buffs pitching has an ERA of 2.94 and posted 257 strikeouts.

Brittni Rufus has the team lead in batting average (.424), hits (59), runs scored (46), and stolen bases (25). Ruby Salzman is also a strong hitter in the Buffs lineup, with a .400 bating average, 46 runs scored, along with 54 hits.

Heidi Vortherms is the standout pitcher for WT, holding a team low 1.66 ERA with 133 strikeouts, and a 12-6 record. Emilee Wilson has record of 7-3 this season, while Emma Parrish has a sub-three ERA at 2.26.
