Press Release from Portales Police Department
On Friday, August 22, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers with the Portales Police Department responded to the Portales Junior High school after dispatch was notified by phone of a lost or stolen fanny pack at Portales Junior High. The fanny pack contained several items according to the caller to include a firearm. The caller said she was attending the volleyball tournament at Portales Junior High, located at 700 E 3rd, and either left or had her fanny pack stolen while she was in the bleachers.
Officers searched the gyms at the Junior High and eventually located the fanny pack and confirmed that the handgun was still inside.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Sarah Vilandry (32) of Clovis for Bringing a Deadly Weapon on School Property. Vilandry turned herself in on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Roosevelt County Detention Center.
