– Following its upset over #1 Lubbock Christian last week, the Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team moved up to the No. 6 spot in the Week 8 D2SIDA South Central Regional Rankings.

The Hounds tipped off its homestand with the biggest upset off the year at the NCAA DII level after sophomore point guard Zamorye Cox knocked down a floater with eight seconds left in overtime to secure the 69-68 victory over the reigning national champion, Lubbock Christian. Eastern finished the week with a 1-1 record after falling to Angelo State by a 70-60 final

Cox averaged 20 points over the course of the two games and added nine assists, eight rebounds and six steals. Junior post player Alivia Lewis also turned in a monster performance averaging 14 points and 14 rebounds per game as she recorded her fifth and sixth double-double of the season, the highest mark in the Lone Star Conference.

The Green and Silver will look to climb the rankings even further this week as they prepare for a pair of road contests against Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
